Stages of restoring gait function

The first stage The patient is very weak and lies on bed. Exercises performed: Transfer from a sitting position on the bed to the stander seat and back from the stander to the bed – with the help of a care giver. Standing up and sitting down – with the help of a care giver. Improvement of mobility of ankle, knee and hip joints – with the help of a care giver. Stander equipped as in photo >
The second stage The patient is able to sit up in bed Exercises performed: Transfer from a sitting position on the bed to the stander seat and back from the stander to the bed – with the help of a care giver. The third stage The patient is able to stand (in support) on their own feet. Exercises performed: Transfer from a sitting position on the bed to the stander seat and back from the stander to the bed – with the help of a care giver. The fourth stage the patient is able to stand (in support) on their own feet and perform small steps. Exercises performed: Transfer from a sitting position on the bed to the stander seat and back from the stander to the bed – with the help of a care giver. Standing up and sitting down – unaided Improvement of mobility of ankle, knee and hip joints – unaided. Independent performance of small steps – unaided. The fifth stage The patient is able to stand (in support) on their own feet and perform medium steps. Exercises performed: Transfer from a sitting position on the bed to the stander seat and back from the stander to the bed – with the help of a care giver or unaided. Standing up and sitting down – unaided. Improvement of mobility of ankle, knee and hip joints – unaided. Independent performance of medium steps – unaided. The sixth stage The patient is able to stand up and make medium steps using a walker.
